May 24 - May 25
Join us on our unique floating arts venue for three special events – our contribution to the Open Door Gallery event “Along the Towing Path”.
Film – Friday 24th at 19:30
A screening of TIDES, a new (2017) independent feature film directed by Tupaq Felber. Set on the River Wey, TIDES captures the atmosphere of a journey and reunion of old friends. Gloriously shot in black and white, it evokes trips many of us have made with friends along the canal.
“Likeable, laid-back and low-key… crisp black-and-white cinematography, heartfelt performances and relaxed, improv-type dialogue.” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
Poetry – Saturday 25th at 19:30
An informal evening of waterway-related poetry and film/poems. Come and soak up the boaty atmosphere in Fiodra’s saloon. The event will feature screenings of short film poems made by Canal Laureates past and present, plus the crew of Fiodra will be reading works by: Nancy Campbell, Jo Bell, Robert Powell and members of the Poets Afloat Group. Boat banter will be encouraged!
Dance – Sunday 26th at 12:00 and 15:00
Dancer and canal lover Hannah Warren will be creating an improvised dance piece based on her relationship to and experience of canals. Drop in for however long you like.
“I am forever drawn back to the calming and yet ferocious waters, to the chugging of an engine and the working of a lock. They are a way of life, absorbed into every bone in my body; my liquid root. This connection to Britain’s canals is embodied in my movement improvisation.”
